Transportation is not only business, but represents the joy for the steering wheel and the transport itself. This for sure goes for the owner, Franc Mihevc. He comes from Logatec, a small town in Slovenia. Already in the early childhood he showed enthusiasm for horse and cart driving. But since the modern world is run by "metal horses", he decided to pass his driving license already at the early age of 18 years old. His great passion for driving ensured him the spot of driving instructor during his military service. After the military he put his knowledge to use and started his own transport company and spent his first two years driving the truck.
In 1969 he decided to use his savings to buy his first truck. This was a landmark decision for his future life. He still jokes today that he had to brake by pushing his back against the seat since the brakes on that first truck were not good. The old Steyr was soon replaced by an Alfa, used to transport Fructal juices, cognac and brandy in the old Yugoslavia. Good memories are connected also to wood transportation days also conducted by his Alfa reaching all the way to Serbia. Driving a truck at that time required somewhat strength since the vehicle was equipped by a classical steering mechanism, while the transmission in Alfa already had the mechanically conducted auxiliary gears already then.
The early days did not offer any mobile phone connections or phone booth at every corner which meant a lot of skills and creativity was needed in case of troubles on the road. Thanks to the help of friends and acquaintances this was never a problem.
After the independence of Slovenia from Yugoslavia in 1991, the situation changed. Slovenia was not a big enough market to successfully conduct a transportation activity; the countries of Ex-Yugoslavia were sadly not prosperous markets due to unstable political situations. This meant the company had to turn to countries South of Slovenia.
Unfortunately the cut economic ties with Ex-Yugoslavian countries also meant some losses at the beginning, which encouraged Franc even more to reposition the company and, in a way, start fresh. This proved to be a good decision, since it was not long before the motor fleet as well as the number of personnel was increased and expanded.
In the year 2005 Franc Mihevc went to the well-deserved retirement and the business was taken over by his son, Franci Mihevc. Franci was born in 1978. He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport in Portrož.
Today, Mihevc Transport d.o.o. is a small family owned transport company with eight employees and all family members helping with the business process.
